A brief look into the lives of one of my favorite raptor species to call Ohio home, the Red-Shouldered Hawk.
Footage compiled from three different Red Shouldered Hawk families that reside around the greater Cincinnati area. Red Shouldered Hawks are strikingly beautiful birds of prey. They are a species of the woodlands but are becoming an increasingly frequent resident around suburban neighborhoods. These hawks will hunt a wide range of prey including small rodents, frogs, fish, lizards, snakes, crayfish, large insects, birds and more. Interestingly, this hawk species will at times coexist alongside Barred Owls as both species have similar habitat requirements and similar preferences in prey.
